IC3K 2024 (16th International Joint Conference on Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management) received 175 paper submissions from 47 countries. To evaluate each submission, a double‐blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee. After a stringent selection process, 37 papers were published and presented as full papers, i.e. completed work (12
pages/25’ oral presentation), 87 papers were accepted as short papers (57 as oral presentation). These numbers, leading to a “full‐paper” acceptance ratio of about 21.14% and a total oral paper presentations acceptance ratio close to 49.71%, show the intention of preserving a high‐quality forum for the next editions of this conference.
The organizing committee included the IC3K Conference Chair: Jorge Bernardino, Polytechnic University of Coimbra, Portugal and the IC3K 2024 Program Chairs: David Aveiro, University of Madeira, NOVA- LINCS and ARDITI, Portugal, Antonella Poggi, Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, Italy, Ana Fred, Instituto de Telecomunicações and Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon), Portugal, Le Gruenwald, University of Oklahoma, School of Computer Science, United States, Elio Masciari, University of Napoli Federico II, Italy and Frans Coenen, University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
IC3K technical program included three invited talks delivered by internationally distinguished speakers, namely:
- Nirmalie Wiratunga, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, United Kingdom
- João Gama, University of Porto, Portugal
- Carlo Sansone, University of Naples Federico II, Italy
At the closing session, the conference acknowledged a few papers that were considered excellent in their class, presenting a “Best Paper Award”, “Best Student Paper Award” and “Best Poster Award” for each of the co-located conferences. These awards were conferred to the authors indicated below:

A short list of presented papers will be selected so that revised and extended versions of these papers will be published by Springer in a CCIS Series Book.
Additionally, another short list of best papers will be invited for publication of extended and revised versions in a special issue of the Springer Nature Computer Science Journal.
The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by SCOPUS, Google Scholar, The DBLP Computer Science Bibliography, Semantic Scholar, Engineering Index and Web of Science / Conference Proceedings Citation Index.
After a successful 2024 edition, IC3K 2025 will be held in Marbella, Spain, from the 20th to the 22nd of
October, 2025. For more updated information, please visit the conference website https://ic3k.scitevents.org
